I’ve been using Gas Buddy for years and today wanted to see how much savings I’ve accumulated. Finding the amount I’ve earned on the app proved to be quite the goose chase and once I found it I discovered that rewards expire. I’ve never cashed out my accumulated savings over the last 4 years and I find that I only have $4 to use (my husband’s Upsides account has accumulated $60 in comparison… this is only from getting gas and have been using the app for half as long). Now how do I use my $4? I’m sure I can figure it out but it is not at all intuitive. They make it so hard to find your balance and use it. Just a waste of time uploading receipts thinking I’d actually get money back for it. Gas Buddy is a joke. Only good for finding gas deals but if you think you’re getting any cash back, don’t get too excited.

This app used to be so helpful, now it’s dominated by a handful of either trolls or greedy gas station owners that login and report prices 30-40 cents cheaper than reality. It used to be very rare that this would happen and now it’s less than 70% reliable that the prices even be accurate. Those who correctly report prices are overridden within minutes by someone that falsely says price has dropped.

I have been with Gas Buddy for a long time, YEARS! I’ve gotten friends & family on the app & we all love it. Until we were notified that now the option to use the gas buddy card that debits out of a Checking Account is being discontinued & now if you want to take advantage of “cheaper gas” of up to 35 cents off you MUST QUALIFY FOR A MASTER CARD/AKA CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT! What a slap in the face! Currently people are already paying outrageous fees, interest rates & extra costs EVERYWHERE. So now an app that claims to save people money is REQUIRING THEM TO QUALIFY OR OPEN AN ACCOUNT THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO ADD MORE DEBT/FEES/INTEREST! The savings at the pump are not worth the potential risk. What an awful thing to require for an app claiming to save people money at the pump ESPECIALLY NOW! I’m so disgusted. My identity was stolen so I don’t use credit cards, also MANY PEOPLE don’t like using credit for GAS PURPOSES! It’s one of the easiest ways to acquire debt/biggest money makers for the banks- why? PEOPLE NEED GAS!! Again SHAME ON GAS BUDDY!

All I wanted to do was find gas prices around me. It I could not get off the the $30 free gift pop up no matter how many times I clicked on the x to close it. I just wanted to go get some gas. APP DELETED!!!!!!!

Used Gas Buddy since 2013, cannot figure out how to use my card to pay for gas out of my checking account. $4,000+ in my acct and GAS BUDDY (GB) could not get paid. >Do not know what has changed, that the GB could not get funds to pay for my Gas. Always advising family & friends to use GB; no longer until someone tells me how to use it. Can’t find a contact ph# either.

Has a pop now that won’t let you get to gas buddy. Annoying and really makes me angry

The interface is completely locked until click a button that ops you in for some random digital subscription that you don’t want. The modal dialog is locked until you follow the first few steps of signing up. I have used this app off and on over the years and find it has been very useful. This new integration is not good. Why not just charge for the app?

The database that stores the gas prices is corrupted & periodically deletes data. This app is now useless.

All you need to know is that they share info with insurance companies. They use your telemetry state in your phone.

The app stopped reporting ANY gas stations. Submitted a ticket over two weeks ago but no responses from Gas Buddy.

Used to be good. Now, every time I use it I get spammed in my email.

Price listings are now mostly out of date, unreliable, or unavailable. Some stores not even identified correctly, and won’t update even after submitted corrections. Rest of app is mostly pushing useless promotions and goofy gamifying of gas purchases. Used to be the go-to for locating best gas prices. Not anymore.

Horrible app! Prices are NEVER correct. No customer service. I have emailed many times to change my email and also get my discount fixed because I filled up 3 cars, I only got my discount on 1 of my 3 transactions even when my discount was activated. I also shouldn’t HAVE to active my discount, it should already automatically be applied since I am using my GasBuddy card.

Gas prices shown are almost always wrong, in my experience probably 4 out of 5 times the real price at the station is 8% to 10% higher than what is reported on the app just a short time before. One station today was 13% higher than the app showed.

I remove the app years ago when it started tracking. I tried it again today and still doesn’t function. The website works great if you don’t want tracking but the website maps and gas reports appear to not function. Seems like this service is just to make money selling your personal data.

I was charged for the membership because I clicked on the sign up button expecting it to tell me the price and send me to a confirmation page. Instead it just went straight to charging me. That’s predatory. Hope I can get a refund. Also, trying to get a new GasBuddy card shipped to me doesn’t work, the app is extremely glitchy. Would not recommend. 1 star.

They used to be good, now no one will even respond to your email. Deleting this app.

It’s okay, but if you need to reach customer support about anything that their latest AI “Fuelly” can’t handle, good luck. I’ve been reaching out for weeks about an issue and all I get is a response back from Fuelly every few days saying “We’re waiting on a response from you” but nobody’s reached out to me at all about any messages I send. I’ve responded to Fuelly’s emails but no response again. Their “Chat” button, is literally just Fuelly. It even says it’ll connect you to an agent but instead collects your name and email and says “Here’s your ticket number, someone will reach out soon” which is again, you guessed it, Fuelly saying that they’re awaiting a response from me. To what, I don’t know. I’ve checked spam folders, everything. I haven’t been able to get ahold of them for weeks now. So while the card is cool and who doesn’t love saving money especially at the pump, if you have any issues with anything that an ai can’t handle, good luck. Might as well close your account and start over but that probably requires “speaking to an agent” as well.

All I want is to see gas prices near me. It was a great app for several years but recently all they want you to do is buy stuff! Even when you hit the X to exit it won’t let you!! I am not interested in the “$30” gift! Nothing I want is listed and even if it were it’s just another way to get your information. Totally not acceptable. Guess this one will be deleted unless they fix it!

Used to take 1-2 days for transactions to settle, now it takes up to a week and half for money to be taken out my bank account since they moved to the GasBuddy Mastercard. Please fix this.

Ready to delete. Why do I have to go through endless steps to “choose” a free gift from a company I don’t want to deal with??? Hate this kind of manipulation.

Don’t waste your time with this app. It used to be worth it but not anymore. They will show 25¢/gal deal alerts but only pay out 3¢/gal. The only way you will get the full discount is if you submit a bug report, every single time you fill up and wait for 2-3 days for the transaction to process and post with the wrong discount. I have tried to contact support a few times but only ever get an automated response correcting the most recent discount as gasback. I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t have the time to contact support for a couple of dollars every other day.

So I was using this and finding it useful. But when I opened the app to a “free” gift card that I didn’t want and could not clear from the screen without signing up, it had to go.

How about some car play compatibility??

Update March 2025: GasBuddy continues making ‘bug fixes and performance improvements’ to its app, but it continues to fail providing reliable gasoline prices for the traveling public due to a huge flaw in its premise: That human input can be trusted. But false price reports continue even today when a local gas “buddy” typed in a wrong gas price for two different stations even though I had eyeballed the pumps both before and after. The “buddy” was most likely sitting at home and had no clue the price s/he inputted was false, and obviously didn’t care. I’m now convinced there is only one way to fix this years-long problem and that is automatic, hourly computer input by the owner of the station which currently happens with Maverick and Pilot stations in my area. Until dependence on “buddies” inputting false gas prices is removed entirely, NO ONE should rely on this app ever again until the human “buddy” element is removed everywhere. // Gas prices can NO LONGER be trusted on this app. I have seen multiple people input erroneous prices just after I had eyeballed the pumps and inputted the correct prices. It continues like this week after week. Gasbuddy has been notified but has not instituted a solution. There is a solution: automatic hourly inputs by the stations themselves. But it seems only Maverick does this at this time. Until inputting by the public at large is completely ended and actual prices are submitted only by each and every station automatically can faith in this app be restored. DO NOT TRUST GASBUDDY if you do not want to be disappointed. It’s a shame because I travel a lot.

This app is a scam, do not use it. They will take away your points/credits without any warning or reasoning. I’ve built up a bunch of points for them to just not honor it. I would recommend to use the upside app instead! Stay away from this lousy app!

Just downloaded onto my iPhone 16 running iOS 18 set up account with Apple ID, allowed to use location always and it doesn’t work. Can’t find gas despite several station within 2 miles. I am not going to spend half my day trying to figure out why it won’t work. It needs to work seamlessly.

I don’t know what’s going on with this app but ever since this latest update, I am unable to retrieve any gas stations at all.

App used to be good, but now I’m seeing fake prices and driving for cheaper gas and discovering it’s actually not, cost me more. I suggest using Google as it actually has a better pricing updates

This review is about the more functional website NOT the app. The site is now the slimmed down app which is fine when on mobile but it’s now pointless to use the site. We used to see price trends, better mapping functionality and saved favorites. I think users have dropped Gas Buddy in search of something better making the data less robust. People aren’t submitting updates very often.

They make you create an account to use the app that wants to constantly track your location, and guess what? It doesn’t even work. At least not in my area and I live in Las Vegas. I tried this first as it had the most reviews. Then I tried another app called “Alternative Fueling Stations” no account required, no continuous GPS monitoring, and it actually found the E85 stations I was looking for. Save yourself some time and don’t bother with this app.

Waste of time all the prices are way off

All the sudden the app wants me to claim my reward and in order to actually use the app I have to reboot the phone. It’s become so obtrusive that I’m actively looking for alternatives.

Gasbuddy used to provide real and sometimes significant savings on gas. They recently changed their card to a MasterCard and the discounts are much less. I think it’s a ploy to get you to sign up for their paid membership, which offers greater discounts.

Why do you have a pop up for free gift that want go away unless I enter my info? The gift should at the least be optional,no? SMH

This app could be functional and gamify getting gas. However every time I try and interact with it, it proves frustrating. It said I would get a 13 cent discount for reporting a gas price, so I went there. You don’t get the 13 cent credit on cash payments for gas. Why not say that in the message? Why make my first experience trying to support the app a negative one? This is either really poor communication, or this app is a scam. Beware

It allows me to go through My and select that I need a new card and why I need a new card but it will not let me press and select the shipping address so that I can receive a new card. Then it had me signed up for the plus by accident and I still don’t have a card.

I have used this app for more than a year now. It used to honor the $.16 cents a gallon discount. For over a month now and multiple uses at different gas stations I am no longer getting the discount it says I should be getting!!!

You removed Costco and Sam’s Club stations from your app. Deleting account after many years.

I used the app once, then just a few days later I tried to open the app and it asked for a password and guess what the password didn’t save to autofill so deleted the app in frustration

Can’t search because the “free gift” won’t go off the screen. Y’all need to update your app.

Used to be so reliable and user friendly, now it’s basically useless. Please bring back the old version.

I cannot link my bank account to this so there’s not a point in using it. I use Chime or Cash App and it will not let me use it. I’m uninstalling and using UPSIDE. If you’re in a situation like mine download UPSIDE and use 9QS7P2 to get the same features. I’ve already made over $50 cash back!!!!

They want you to jump through their hoops, they need to leave an out for people who don’t want them stuck in your business !

I gave up my regular GasBuddy card that was saving me between $5-$7.50 per fillup. Got the GasBuddy Mastercard and have averaged saving about $1.34 per fill up. Mastercard ruined a good thing. Canceling my plan. I can save more just by shopping for best price on other apps.

We loved this app at first to check gas prices while traveling but now is isn’t accurate. I don’t know if it is the users posting fake prices but it is frustrating! So long gas buddy!!! I’ll find another source.
